Ahead of the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State, a group, Ekiti South Emancipation Agenda (EKSEA) has insisted that the Southern senatorial district must produce the next governor of the state.
The group said the Ekiti North/South Agenda, which made the Northern Senatorial district to produce the governor in 2007 was still in force, adding that; the North would complete its own eight years term, leaving the South as the next beneficiary of the agenda.
In a release issued today by EKSEA Coordinator, Honourable Bunmi Olugbade, the group said anyone jostling for the State governorship outside the Southern senatorial zone was just wasting his or her time.
Olugbade advised those having ambition to contest the governorship from the Central and Northern senatorial districts to bury their governorship ambition.
He described as ridiculous, claim by some supporters of former Governor Ayo Fayose that the South does not have credible and sellable people to fly the PDP flag, saying; “How can a zone that has former deputy governors, diplomats, commissioners, senators, heads of government parastatals, and so on be said not to have credible people to be fielded for governorship election?”
“Those that are saying there is no zoning are just being mischievous and wasting their time.
“If there was no zoning, especially in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), why was it that the party chairmanship position was contested exclusively by candidates from the Northern senatorial district?
“Why was it that both the PDP and Action Congress (AC) fielded candidates from the Northern Senatorial district in 2007?
“Our main agenda therefore is for the south senatorial district to produce the next governor of the state and there is no negotiation about that,” Olugbade said.
